Around 150 employees at a diary company in Bahrain went on strike on Monday in protest over pay and working conditions.
Workers at Almarai Dairy Company said they would not go back to work until the Saudi Arabia-based firm met their demands for better salaries, payment for overtime and holiday entitlement, reported Gulf Daily News.
“We will not go to work unless a written and signed agreement is shown to us,” one worker told the newspaper.
Employees claim many staff have never been given a pay rise or paid overtime during their time at the company, adding that some workers make just BD100 ($265) a month.
Almarai Dairy said the dispute had been resolved and those on strike would return to work today, however protesters rejected the firm’s claims.
The strike is the latest in a string of protests by workers in Bahrain.
Last week around 250 Bahrain Post employees took to the streets over the government’s planned privatisation of the state-run postal service, and in May more than 350 works at Mohammed Jalal Contracting Company went on strike for one day over salary levels.
Back in April Bahraini telecoms operator Batelco narrowly avoided strike action after it came to an agreement with disgruntled employees over pay and working conditions.
