Buy and sell on Facebook
by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Wednesday, 25 July 2007
Is Facebook destined to take over the world? Maybe not, but it may just swallow the Internet.
One of the fastest growing Web sites in the world, Facebook's rise has been a phenomenon; however it does not seem content to rest on its laurels. One of its latest add-ons is the ability to let its users buy and sell their goods online.
Worryingly for existing players, Facebook Marketplace makes good sense. Unlike eBay, the dominant global marketplace, Facebook's sales are tightly integrated with peope's real identities - in theory at least. That makes you less likely to suffer from fraud - as a buyer or a seller.
To join Facebook Marketplace all you need to do is click on the link on the left hand navigation bar on the site's homepage, and join one of its regional networks.
In the United Arab Emirates presently there are 556 items for sale - including a shark, 178 posts for housing, 134 jobs and 35 items wanted - anyone have any old Arabic books?
There are similar networks for countries across the region - including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt and Oman, although some are considerably more developed than others.
