Burger King drives global growth
by Lynne Nolan on Tuesday, 24 July 2007
Burger King will win 80% of its future growth through international expansion efforts, its CEO has revealed.
John Chidsey said the US-based company aims to open between 300 and 400 restaurant annually, net of closures, rolling out in Europe, the Middle East and Latin America "in the short to medium term."
Asia will offer importance in the long-term, he revealed.
The rate of growth envisaged by Chidsey stands in stark contrast to 2006, where net growth was only 25 outlets, due to a high number of closures in the US.
Chidsey added that the company hopes to witness average restaurant sales rise to $1.5 million, up from the current figure of $1.2 million.
The company has released plans to open 40 outlets in Hong Kong alone over a five-year period, to add to its current outlets at Hong Kong International Airport and Victoria Peak, which are run by Select Service Partners.
Burger King intends to commission another franchise operator to set up the upcoming restaurants in downtown Hong Kong and Macau.
