Royal Jordanian Airlines has filed for antitrust immunity to secure more codesharing agreements.

The oneworld alliance member applied to the United States Department Trust for the clearance, which becomes effective on March 30, 2008.

The application was jointly made with four other members of carrier coalition oneworld. They are American Airlines, Iberia, Finnair and Malev Hungarian Airlines.

If approved, the airlines will be able to co-operate across several operational areas, including frequent fliers programmes, route and schedule planning and advertising.

Antitrust immunity will also allow the airlines to collaborate on advertising, marketing, pricing and yield management and distribution systems.

A Royal Jordanian statement said securing antitrust immunity will provide more choice and convenience to its passengers. The airline added it will create more competition with other alliances operating city pair routes and transatlantic coalitions that already have immunity.

Royal Jordanian joined oneworld on April 1, 2007. It was the first Arab airline to secure membership to one of the three global airline alliances.
