Workers had agreed to end their strike following meetings between the Labour Ministry, union leaders and Almarai management.

Bahrain dairy workers ended their strike and returned to work on Tuesday after coming to an initial agreement with management over pay and working conditions.

Around 150 employees at Almarai Dairy Company went on strike on Monday, claiming they would not go back to work until the Saudi Arabia-based firm met their demands for better salaries, payment for overtime and holiday entitlement.

Following meetings between the Labour Ministry, union leaders and Almarai management, the ministry said workers had agreed to end their strike pending the outcome of a final agreement, reported Gulf Daily News.

Ministry Under-Secretary Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said the initial settlement was reached following separate meetings with Almarai and the union, but did not reveal details of what had been agreed.

“At the meeting with the company, the issue was resolved after we discussed all issues under dispute for the benefit of both parties,” he said, according to the newspaper.

"There was also a separate meeting with the union in the presence of representatives from the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions.

"An initial agreement to resolve the issue was reached and workers agreed to end their strike for a final agreement on pending disputes to be finalised in the next few days."
