Tabreed wins IDEA awards

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Wednesday, 01 August 2007
Safi is confident continued growth is on the way for Tabreed.

UAE-based cooling provider now ‘world's largest' and set to maintain its position, says CEO.

District cooling company Tabreed provided cooling services to 473 buildings covering a total of 149.9 million ft² last year, helping the company pick up two gold awards from the US-based International District Energy Association (IDEA), which works to advance global environmental quality through efficient district energy systems.

"Tabreed's achievements are phenomenal given the fact that the industry in the Middle East is less than a decade old. We look forward to many years of sustained growth from the region," said IDEA president Rob Thornton.

Tabreed won the awards for 2006 in the ‘Beyond North America' region in the ‘Total Buildings Committed or Connected to Service', and ‘Total Square Footage' categories. It had first won the latter awarded in 2004. "Tabreed is the now the world's largest district cooling company and receiving this prestigious honour from the leading sector body is validation of our success," said Dany Safi, CEO of the company, adding that Tabreed's recent contracts with ALDAR Properties would mean significant capacity increases in the near and medium term.

"Additionally, our partnerships and group companies in other regional markets such as the GCC and Levant ensure that we will maintain our position for the foreseeable future," said Safi.
