Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has awarded Serco with the operation and maintenance contract for the first two lines of the Dubai Metro.

The contract inlcudes pre-launch consultancy and planning, which will start this summer. In 2009, the operations and maintenance contract will start and will run for five years. There is also an opportunity for a further five-year expansion. If expanded, Serco confirmed the contract would be worth around US $825m (AED 3bn).

Serco will run the operations control centre, provide train attendants and all staff at the stations and maintain rolling stock, track and station facilities.
