Swift Global Logistics expansion in Far East

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Tuesday, 07 August 2007
International trade: Swift Global Logistics is looking at Singapore, Shenzhen and Beijing for future expansion.

Swift Global Logistics is planning a major international expansion, with offices being launched in Singapore, Shenzhen and Beijing.

The development will compliment the Dubai-based company's focus on serving Africa through the Far East, increasing its network to 39 offices, spanning 18 countries around the world.

"The Far East has become the major trade lane for Africa," said Balasubramanian Rajagopalan, managing director, Swift Global Logistics. "African customers are going there to purchase products and China is also heavily investing in infrastructure projects in Africa."

The company is planning to offer a variety of sea freight, airfreight and 3PL services through the new offices, including its SAM (Sea Air Model) service, which combines sea-air transportation from the Far East and Indian subcontinent to Africa via Dubai. The service is designed to offer a cost effective alternative for shipments to Africa, with the latest locations hoping to increase connections for the service.

"We chose to locate the offices in Singapore, Shenzhen and Beijing because they have good proximity to ports and airports, together with a good business environment that is promoted by the government. These are full fledged offices, with branch managers, sales and operations staff," said Rajagopalan.

"Further international expansion is being considered for the future. We are looking at Korea and Vietnam, as well as Mozambique, Angola, Sudan and Ivory Coast in Africa," he added.
