Dubai will become the focus for the region's seafood sector in October, when the emirate hosts the first Dubai International Seafood Expo. Some 70 exhibitors from 14 countries will attend the event, which will take place at Dubai's Crowne Plaza Hotel on October 29-31, 2007.

The exhibition will provide a platform for regional and international companies aiming to tap Dubai's burgeoning seafood market, which was worth some US $200 million in 2006 with seafood imports reaching more than 55,000 tons and exports reached almost 10,500 tons with a total market value of USD 51 million, according to Orange Fairs & Events, organiser of the show.

During the three-day show, trade visitors can keep abreast with the latest seafood products from across the globe as well as the developments in the technology, equipment and services geared for the industry.

Exhibitors from 14 countries including six local companies will highlight seafood products, technology and services as well as furnishings, fittings, cold storage systems, packaging and equipment designed for the industry.

"Until now, there has been no dedicated exhibition and sourcing event for manufacturers and traders in Dubai's seafood industry, which ballooned to US $200 million last year and is expected to continue its momentum with the continuing economic boom," said Raees Ahmed, director, Orange Fairs & Events.

"The huge demand in seafood and seafood products has consequently created tremendous prospects for manufacturers and suppliers of related technology, equipment and services across the world. Realizing these potentials and the lack of a definitive platform, we decided to launch Dubai International Seafood Expo 2007."
