Getting bigger and better

In my experience, it's the little things you notice when you first arrive in a new country. Subtle differences such as clothing, or the cars people drive, the language or the local climate.
That really can't be applied to my arrival in Dubai from London on Sunday morning.
After the sleepless seven-hour flight from Heathrow, I emerged from the plane at 4am and was welcomed by a powerful blast of hot air. (Actually it was quite pleasant after the dismal UK summer, and instantly transported me back to my happy days living in central Queensland, Australia.).
Anyway, the brief journey through the eye-opening Dubai International Airport told me that while those differences are certainly here, they are on an impressively larger scale.
And in the few days since my arrival, that initial impression has been reinforced.
So far, when friends abroad have asked me what Dubai is like, my standard answer has been: "It appears to be an enormous construction zone, flanked by a beach and a slew of staggering skyscrapers."
Apologies if you find that to be an unfair generalisation, but Dubai is a developing city. It made me smile to look out my window for the first time when the sun rose on Sunday morning to see a view comprised of new builds, sand dunes and not much else.
It's an exciting time to be here and as new legislation sparks the region's property markets further, the investors of the world are turning their eyes to the Middle East.
The Gulf is booming, real estate is buzzing and I'm looking forward to bringing you all the news of the developments within the property world.
