Cargolux adds to freighter fleet
by Alex Hawkes on Wednesday, 08 August 2007
Cargolux Airlines International has received its 15th B747-400 freighter from Boeing.
Completing its first flight with a full load of cargo from Seattle to Luxembourg, the aircraft has been named ‘City of Petange'. Like its predecessors, the Boeing freighter is powered by Rolls Royce engines designed to reduce noise level and fuel consumption.
‘We have operated the B747-400F for many years with excellent results and this aircraft was elementary to our success and profitable growth,' said Uli Ogiermann, president and CEO, Cargolux.
‘With this mature aircraft, we can offer to our customers a very modern product that helps us to strengthen our position as a global player. The 747-400 provides us with the most modern technology and we will continue this with the new 747-8 freighter from 2009 on," he added.
The aircraft is to serve across the European all-cargo airline's international routes, representing the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and its namesake, the city of Petange.
