Overseas AST Company has won a US $32.7 million (AED120) million contract from district cooling provider Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower).
The contract involves works on the 20,000TR district cooling plant in the Dubai-based City of Arabia project. Overseas AST Company has already completed piling works on the project.
Empower ceo Ahmed bin Shafar commented: "This marks the beginning of our major venture at the City of Arabia project. Overseas AST was selected to execute the project because of its track record in commissioning large projects without time slippage.
"District cooling at major real estate developments assumes special significance as it is more environmentally friendly; the plan also mirrors Dubai government's sustainable development policies," he added.
Empower is a joint venture between Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone (TECOM) Investments and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). It was created to provide district cooling services to large-scale projects.
