Demand for media professionals on the rise

People seeking a career change are increasingly turning to the region's growing broadcast industry, according to the SAE Institute in Dubai.

SAE has experienced a rush in applications this summer and has noticed a trend amongst many applicants. Corporate training manager, Giorgio Ungania said he was surprised by the number of people with a "big plan" for their lives.

"Lets say they are in banking now and they want to be a DJ. They come to us for a few months on a short course and get a better idea of whether they are suited to that direction", he said.

SAE Institute Dubai's general manager, Jason de Wilde added, "It is often said that the city is only interested in making money, but clearly there are lots of young people who are also passionate about making music, animation and film".

As big developments in Dubai such as Studio City and Dubailand approach completion, it is expected that the job market for media trainees with audio and visual production skills will also develop.

Ungania says the industry is already approaching SAE to enquire about its most promising students suggesting that they are already struggling to fill their staff quotas with sufficiently trained personnel.

The next intake of students at training facilities across the region will help to ease this problem, he added.

Studio city will see 22 million sq ft of new production facilities added to those already in place at Dubai Media City. As the sector continues to grow in the UAE and beyond the demand for trained professionals ready to cope with the most advanced technology will continue to grow.

"In theory a student that walks out of here with a diploma can immediately go and work for a broadcaster or a movie company," said de Wilde.
