Energy City Qatar (ECQ) and NavLink will explore options to develop, build and operate a state-of-the-art data centre in the city.

Both companies signed a memorandum of understanding at the end of July in a bid to develop the city's information and communication infrastructure (ICT).

"Energy City Qatar Data Center will be a crucial element to providing tenants with access to ultra-fast, uninterrupted communications across the globe. It will install an advanced data node capable of directly interconnecting our residents with businesses and other energy cities around the world, using the fastest, most reliable technology available," said ECQ's head of technology, Mark Fuller.

If built, the data centre will be built and operated by NavLink and is expected to serve 35,000 users.

"ECQ data centre will be diligent and reliable with an uninterruptible power supply," stated Bassem Soubra, territory manager, NavLink.

ECQ's CEO added that he sees the agreement as a further step towards establishing ECQ as the world's leading location for energy companies. It has the full support of the Qatari Government and aims to lead the way in hydrocarbon above ground resource development.
