More passengers boarding Jazeera flights

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Sunday, 02 September 2007
Come on board: Jazeera Airways contributed significantly to the 20% passenger increase at Kuwait International Airport in July.

Jazeera Airways has increased passenger traffic by 14% at Kuwait International Airport, according to its CEO.

Marwan Boodai said the airline, which operates from bases in Kuwait and Dubai, carried more people in the opening half of 2007 compared with the same period last year.

Passenger traffic at KIA increased by 20% in total, with the remaining 6% attributed to other airlines operating to and from the hub.

During the same period, 50% of Jazeera Airways' customers booked flights at jazeeraairways.com, giving it a 38.2% network market share average.

Boodai said: "So far, 2007 is a very exciting year for us. We grew our fleet, launched our second hub in Dubai, began flights to five new cities, and kept bringing very low fares to travellers. But the year is not over yet and we look forward to an even better second half with new destinations and great low fares."

In February, the airline opened a second Dubai-based hub. According to its management, the new base makes Jazeera the first and only low-cost airline in the city.

Jazeera was established 20 months ago and flies to 14 destinations across the Middle East, including Kuwait, Bahrain and Salalah.

It also operates flights to cities outside the region, such as Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi.

The airline recently increased its Airbus A320 order to 40 from 10 in preparation for increased services to existing destinations and new route launches.
