Dubai Autodrome revs up offer
by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Tuesday, 04 September 2007
Dubai Autodrome's race and drive centre has expanded it's product offer with the addition of the Audi RS4 to its fleet.
The autodrome's media manager Paul Velasco said making the car available was part of the venue's "evolution" to ensure it offered up-to-date experiences.
"We have had the Audi A3 here, and the TTs and the Quattro - what we try and do is keep the fleet current," he said.
"We have a lot of stuff [planned] in the pipeline. I think Dubai Autodrome is something that appeals to your more advanced driver, who is tired of only driving on the road.
"You can drive a lot quicker here, and it is a controlled situation where no-one is going to brake in front of you or pull out suddenly."
Velasco said the venue, which is four years old, was still working to establish itself and identify its most appropriate market and marketing channels.
The autodrome was already popular for corporate bookings, and was now looking to attract more bookings from the tourist trade to supplement its regular clientele, he added.
"Motoring is very popular in the UAE, where just about everyone is a ‘petrol head', especially the local people," he said. "People don't know what we do here, but we do far more than just racing. If you come down here for the first time, there are five or six experiences you can do. And then after that you might want to try racing, or you might want to get a car and build it up yourself."
Experiences available range from driving Audi TT or RS4 models, the Subaru WRX or a single-seater Formula Dubai car, to go-karting or passenger experiences with a qualified instructor.
"It's very important for us to keep expanding the services and equipment available here," Velasco said.
