US day spa dollars down
by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Tuesday, 04 September 2007
Preliminary results from the International SPA Association (ISPA) revealed that despite a growing number of US spas, overall revenues were down. Worst hit was revenue from day spa facilities, which fell from US $6.7 billion in 2005 to $5.2 billion last year. Medical spas were well up though, increasing from $469 million to $1 billion during the same period.
Overall, spa revenue dropped 3.4% to $9.4 billion across the industry.
Although the number of spas across the US increased 6% to 14,615, the number of spa visits dropped 16% to 110 million visits last year.
ISPA's preliminary findings were based on data collected in August, with final figures expected to be released in November this year.
