Hotel review: Radisson SAS Dubai Media City

The entrance of this most modern of hotels is striking: light fittings that border on sculpture, graceful water features and stylish furniture all contribute to a formidable first impression. Smart, polite and efficient staff glide through the check in procedure and I'm shown swiftly to my room.

The sharp design of the lobby is echoed in the well-appointed bedrooms which offer fully interactive entertainment facilities including an internet connection (both wireless and wired, depending on how elderly your computer equipment is), TV and DVD player and (as I was an executive guest) a Nespresso coffee machine. Recognising that most guests do not want to spend costly minutes arranging the more mundane household tasks, the management have installed a ‘One Touch' system to allow guests to easily arrange wakeup calls, room service, housekeeping, laundry etc. The ensuite bathroom is spacious and ample toiletries supplies combined with music streamed from the bedroom mean that there need be no limit on time spent languishing in the bath.

The hotel has been built in two phases and so takes the form of two towers connected by a passageway on the second floor, allowing guests to freely roam the facilities on both sides of the breach. Whilst the Dubai summertime precludes a day-time bask by the two rooftop pools, as evening falls they form stylish venues for a pre-dinner drink. The Tamanya terrace atop the West tower is a particularly popular venue for locals and expats to take in the cityscape and enjoy a sundowner. Two restaurants provide dining options for residents and the public alike. The Chef's House serves up oriental-asian fusion food but plays second fiddle to the award-winning Certo restaurant where Italian fare is the order of the day. Indeed, it is a good sign when the hotelier himself brings a party to dine.

Located in the heart of Dubai's media city, the Radisson SAS hotel holds high appeal for business guests. Not only is it conveniently situated in one of the prime business districts in the city, it also bends over backwards to provide such folk with everything they could need for a comfortable and fruitful stay. The business suite offers the weary worker an opportunity to relax and unwind with satellite television, a complimentary buffet and private breakfast as well as basic business services. Meeting rooms complete with audiovisual facilities and allocated butler are available to hire for those in the area with work.

This is not to say that the hotel is exclusively for business clients. The beach is close by, as are some of Dubai's mandatory shopping experiences. Those with surplus energy can enjoy a complimentary session with a personal trainer in the fully equipped gym whilst those seeking ultimate relaxation can take advantage of the Asian-themed Senso spa which has a plethora of treatments to ease even the tensest souls.

In sum, the contemporary, four-star Radisson is a must for the discerning business traveller but should not be overlooked by leisure holidaymakers who could make equally good use of the generous facilities on offer.

Radisson Club Card is a shame

I spent AED 700 and got a Radisson SAS gold club member card, which they promoted to give members a lot of benefits. I've barely found any so far.
