Screens so flat they’re invisible

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Friday, 07 September 2007

While most eyes will be on the brilliant innovation in LCD and plasma screens during GITEX, consumers will be remiss to pass by Optoma's stand, where it is showcasing the latest range of office and home cinema projectors.

Optoma is a leading designer and manufacturer of projectors that are carefully crafted to deliver crystal clear images by incorporating the latest DLP® technology from Texas Instruments. The DLP® chip is one of the most sophisticated light switches on the market.

It contains a rectangular array of two million hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors; each one measuring less than one-fifth the width of a human hair.

When a DLP® chip is coordinated with a digital video or graphic signal, a light source, and a projection lens, its mirrors can reflect a digital image onto a screen or any other flat surface.

The quality of the image is clearer than plasma and rivals that of the best LCD screens. The company offers a range of projectors from an ‘all-in-one' home cinema solution, to the huge 120-inch image in full high definition (1080P) at 20% the cost of a 103-inch plasma screen TV.

This is the second showing at GITEX for Optoma. This year, the company will launch a number of new products designed to appeal to all budgets - with prices starting from US$500.

The ‘HD81LV' device is expected to be the show-stopper this year, producing powerful image processing and a professional interface with a 1080P and an impressive resolution of 1920 x 1080.

Optoma is also betting on the versatile and compact DV11, a 3-in-1 projector, DVD, and speaker system, that offers a complete, portable, and affordable home cinema experience. The company sees the Middle East as a fertile and lucrative region in which to grow its market share, in both the home and office environments.

In the first half of 2007, sales in the Middle East increased 150% compared to the same period last year.

The current regional development is the part of the Optoma's strategy to emulate its success in other markets, such as the US and Western Europe where it is considered among the top five players.

In order to become a leader in the market, Optoma is following a predictable yet effective strategy: content localisation. It is launching special options to select Arabic screen menus, something that many hi-tech consumers in the region are sure to welcome. As an added attraction, the Optoma stand will showcase the Microsoft Xbox Elite, which is launching during GITEX. The games will be projected by Optoma's home cinema projector, the HD81LV.

Customers at this year's GITEX 2007 will be able to experience the amazing gaming capabilities and benefits of this high-end and extremely versitile projector.
