Rotana and Starwood Dubai properties get a new look for summer

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Sunday, 09 September 2007
Rotana and Starwood.

Two stalwarts of the Dubai hotel industry will be given a new lease on life this year, with the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel and Sheraton Deira Hotel both receiving a facelift.

The multi-million dirham refurbishment of the Al Bustan began in May, and is expected to run until October in four phases, including the refurbishment of 275 guest rooms, a new dining concept being created in the current Fontana Restaurant, a makeover of the Grand Rashidiya ballroom area and an increase number of meeting rooms, and a facelift for the lobby.

The new-look guestrooms feature new carpet, beds and linens, bigger writing tables and storage spaces, and wall-mounted flat-screen LCD televisions.

Sheraton Deira Hotel general manager Josef Sorger said the hotel was upgrading its ‘classic rooms' inventory - 180 out of 224 keys - to "keep astride with mushrooming new deluxe hotels within a close vicinity, as well as [listening to] the voice of our customers for their needs and requirements".

"The bathrooms are completely redesigned and made new from scratch, with the latest fixtures in taps, standing shower heads, vanity counters, bathtubs, audio speakers and lighting,"he said.

Guest rooms would also be repainted, and be fitted out with new furniture and flat-screen televisions.

"The overall aesthetic feel of the renovation has been perfectly blended to create a tranquil and cozy environment away from home for business and leisure travellers alike," Sorger added.

With lobby and outlet furniture also being updated, the renovation is being completed over three phases; renovated rooms are due back online by mid-October 2007, and the final phase is scheduled for completion by mid-October 2008.
