Danat Resort to produce MICE brochure

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Sunday, 16 September 2007
The Danat Resort is targeting corporates seeking alternatives to Northern Emirates.

The UAE's only west coast five-star property, Danat Resort Jebel Dhanna, plans to introduce a dedicated MICE brochure this month in response to strong demand from this sector.

The publication will highlight the property's MICE facilities and services and be distributed to corporate clients, travel management companies and event planners across the UAE, explained general manager, Manoj Kanwal.

"We are targeting companies looking for a new venue," he said. "Most companies in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have already been to Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah and are looking for something different."

He said Danat Resort Jebel Dhanna, which is located 240 km from the City of Abu Dhabi, offered a combination of "meetings and relaxation" due to its private and remote location.

"We are encouraging guests to stay for a two-night minimum and to extend their stay to include at least one day of relaxation," Kanwal added.

The property boasts 109 sea-facing rooms, a gym, outdoor pool, five F&B outlets, outdoor massage pavilions and offers a wide range of activities, from cycling and fishing to water sports.

Meetings facilities include a ballroom and breakout rooms, with wireless internet services in both, as well as in the lobby and on the patio, while meetings packages are tailor made to include breakfasts, coffee breaks, upgrades, additional night stays, and activities.

In addition, the hotel runs an offer for bookers whereby they receive a voucher for one night's stay for the following weekend, subject to availability.

Kanwal said MICE business currently accounted for around 9% of sales and that groups of between 30 and 70 people were typical.

"We get lots of requests for big international conference bookings, but that's not our market," he added.

In order to grow the small groups and incentives business, Kanwal plans to relocate one of the members of his sales team to Dubai where the majority of international companies are based.

The aim was for MICE bookings to account for between 20 and 25% of total sales, he added.
