Regional telco operators have embarked on a series of promotional initiatives during the Islamic month of Ramadan.
UAE operator Etisalat has launched a special promotion during the month offering free credit of 65 UAE dirhams to customers who purchase a new Wasel prepaid SIM card.
"Ramadan is a month of reaching out, both spiritually and to your family and friends. With a wide range of offers designed to enable our customers to reach out and extend themselves, we look forward to being there beside our customers during the Holy Month," said Essa Al Haddad, chief marketing officer at Etisalat.
Etisalat is also offering free line rental until the end of the year for GSM postpaid mobile subscribers.
Not to be outdone, Etisalat's UAE rival du has launched its own promotion during the month through a partnership with Arab media network MBC.
The telco is offering episodes from three MBC shows Tash Ma Tash, Baini Wo Bainak and Land of the Prophets to its subscribers on an exclusive basis via the agreement.
In Bahrain, meanwhile, the leading mobile operator Batelco has reduced its mobile phone rates during Ramadan. Between the hours of 9pm and 8am, it is charging its mobile post-paid customers only 20 fils per minute, after the first minute of talk time, for local mobile calls.
"During Ramadan nights, everyone is out and about so the reduced rates will make it easier to stay in touch with loved ones throughout the Kingdom," Batelco general manager Ahmed Al Janahi stated.
