Saudi Arabia's Kingdom Holding Company has appointed US-based contracting and engineering giant Bechtel to supervise and develop its 55 billion Saudi riyal ($15 billion) luxury real estate project on the Red Sea north of Jeddah.
Bechtel was chosen out of a total of eight companies in a competitive bid process.
Kingdom Holding's project, currently known as Jeddah Land, covers an area of two million square metres on the northen limits of Jeddah.
The area, which is only five minutes from King Abdul Aziz Airport, will be developed to include residential and commercial buildings. Hotels, offices, retail space and an education zone will join together to create a viable self-contained community.
A landmark tower will provide a focal point for the development. Pickard Chilton has been commissioned to design the skyscraper. The development will also include a bridge crossing the Obhur Creek.
Bechtel is no stranger to massive projects in Saudi Arabia. The company was a lead project manager for the creation of Jubail Industrial City on the east coast of Saudi Arabia in 1975.
Last year the company won a $3.8 billion contract for phase two expansion of the Jubail Industrial City.

Obhur Creek? this publication must be a joke. looks more like the Dubai Creek to me with the Baniyas Road Rolex twin towers in the background.
