The Drophead has a top speed of 240 kilometres per hour.

Luxury UK carmaker Rolls-Royce on Thursday took the wraps off its new Phantom Drophead Coupé for the first time in the Middle East.

The $400,000-plus two-door convertible is powered by massive 6.75 litre V12 engine that generates 453 horsepower and can do zero to 100 kilometres per hour (kph) in a lightning 5.7 seconds. The Drophead has a top speed of 240kph.

The soft-top, first unveiled last year at the Detroit Motor Show, has four seats and features rear-opening ‘suicide’ doors and thin LED headlamps, as well as a brushed steel bonnet inspired by the ‘bare metal’ theme pioneered in its 100EX experimental car.

The design of the Phantom Drophead Coupé is meant to capture the essence of the classic J-class racing yachts of the 1930s.

To accentuate the Drophead’s performance capabilities, Rolls-Royce has made the car’s front more rakish and the radiator grille a more streamlined shape.

“We have seen exceptional customer interest in the Phantom Drophead Coupé around the world and are pleased to show the car for the first time in this region,” Peter Schoppmann, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Regional Director for the Middle East, said in a statement.

With the addition of this new car to the range Rolls-Royce now offers three models in the region, including the Phantom and Phantom Extended Wheelbase.

The Drophead was unveiled by Rolls-Royce’s official importer in Qatar, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Doha.
