The British Embassy in the UAE has announced changes to its visa application process as part of a global roll-out of Visa Application Centres and biometrics by the UK government.
UAE applicants will in future be required to submit applications in person at visa application centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the British Embassy said on its website.
“All UK visa applications will be made at the UK Government’s new visa application centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and not at the British Embassies. Applicants will also need to provide their biometric data when they apply” it said.
"This data will be collected by our partner, Visa Facilitation Services (VFS), but will be treated in full confidence, processed and disclosed in accordance with UK data protection legislation." "During the transition between 21 and 25 September we will not be able to process routine applications” the embassy said.
Changes take effect from September 26.

Biometrics are things like your finger prints, retina scans, DNA that confirm your identity categorically. These are sampled electronically then encoded digitally. So if you make a fraudulent application for a visa, go away and change your name address and passport it won't matter because you can't change your biometric ID.
