Medcare runs MRCP LVL 2 preparatory course

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Monday, 01 October 2007

Medcare Hospital, part of Dr. Moopen's group, recently held the first preparatory course covering a comprehensive range of topics in the Diploma for the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) Level 2 written examinations. Visiting consultants from Hammersmith Hospitals and the National Orthopaedic Hospital Trust, along with Dr. Ashfaq Konchwalla of Medcare Hospital conducted a two-day intensive training programme for doctors who have pursued MRCP Level 1 and are eligible for the MRCP Level 2.

Dr Konchwalla said: "With the arrival of Dubai Healthcare City and a thriving medical industry in the region, there has been a requirement for providing such courses to doctors. Instead of travelling abroad doctors can now pursue their studies while working in the UAE."

At the programme, candidates were questioned on clinical scenarios and this was then discussed in detail with the tutor to further highlight the required techniques to successfully attempt the questions.

"Bringing the MRCP Level 2 preparatory courses to Dubai has certainly made it practical for many of the GP's planning to take the exam without having to leave the country," said: Dr Faisal Dalvi, an attendee from Al Zahra hospital. "We save on time and additional costs of travelling while at the same time we get to keep our jobs and simultaneously pursue the training course," he added.

General Practitioners are entitled to become Specialist Physicians or even Consultants on the completion of both Level 1 and 2 of the Diploma of the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) examination.

Topics covered under the programme included: Cardiology, Respiratory System, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Renal, Haematology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Rheumatology, Infectious diseases, dermatology and Overdose. The course materials included questions previously asked in the MRCP examination and additional study material prepared by the faculty.
