Lost Paradise waterpark opens in Bahrain

The park employs the latest technology to minimise water wastage.

The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park opened its doors last month, as part of the first phase of the US $1.3 billion Al Areen development in Bahrain.

The 77,000m² water park was designed by Malaysia-based Sim Leisure Consultants, and the water slides, wave pool and interactive structures were constructed and installed by Canada's Whitewater West.

Al Areen Holding Company vice chairman Esam Janahi said the company was optimistic Lost Paradise "will soon become one of the region's leading tourist and leisure destinations".

Lost Paradise of Dilmun chairman Muhannad Hamad said the water park would attract visitors from neighbouring GCC countries, and also from international arrivals.

"What makes the Lost Paradise of Dilmun unique is that in addiction to the unrivalled attraction of ‘Dilmun Artesian Spring' - recreating the idea of Bahrain's ancient springs - Lost Paradise has the largest wave pool in the Middle East, and the only one with a sandy beach, an attraction for visitors of all ages," he said.

Drawing its theme from the ancient Dilmun civilisation - a time of abundant water, springs and shallow wells - the park is divided into six zones and features 14 slides, pools and fountains, in addition to themed food and drink outlets.

The development also includes a 1000m² retail area selling branded merchandise, resort wear and swimwear. Guests will also be able to use cashless technology to purchase goods and services, with each visitor given a wristband - carrying credit - that can be topped up at the park's reload station. Credit is then deducted for any purchases made.

Park designers have also ensured the facility is fully equipped to protect visitor's health and safety. Lost Paradise general manager Paul Blunt said "every ounce" of the park's fresh water would be fully recycled to World Health Organisation standards, and up to 70 lifeguards would be on duty at any one time.

The park is open seven days each week, including during Ramadan.
