Aspiring musicians and producers in the Middle East can now access professional education services provided by some of the biggest names in the business, following the launch of new online training programme by UK-based company ThinkSpace.

The Digital Music programme allows students to study at home in their own time, supported by a team of professional musicians, composers and creative professionals.

The course focuses on creating music using software applications and addresses issues ranging from structuring music and writing tunes to recording applications, plug-ins and studio design.

Digital Music complements ThinkSpace's established Music for the Media distance learning course for professional film and TV scoring which, with 2,500 students and graduates in 25 countries, is the largest film music course in the world.

The programme has also attracted the involvement of a number of high-profile industry players as course tutors, including Grammy award winning mixer/producer Phil Larsen; dance music remixer Rick Snoman; indie producer Steve Hillier; and composer/orchestrators Chuck Fernandez and Milton Nelson.

The course itself comprises eight units: Musical Structure and Form; Computers and Music; Tune Writing, Scales and Tonality; Acoustics and the Studio Design; Rhythm; MIDI; Harmony and Chord Progressions and Audio Sequencing, plus a final project.

"This is a unique opportunity to learn from the best talent in the world and produce music to be really proud of," claimed ThinkSpace founder Guy Michelmore. "Digital Music was created to help musicians reach their full potential - in a world of largely self taught musicians, we all have holes in our knowledge that are holding us back. The uniquely flexible structure of DM allows both beginners and more experienced musicians to bring their skills up to a professional level, integrating new knowledge into their workflow to become better musicians."
