Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced it will open a 400-room Holiday Inn branded property in Bur Dubai - the company's first Sharia-compliant property in the United Arab Emirates.
The property, delivered after an agreement with the Al Yaquob Group, is scheduled to open in the second half of 2008, and is one of 18 IHG properties planned for the UAE by 2010.
Facilities will include all-day dining outlets, meeting spaces and business centers, and a rooftop health club, and the location has been selected to attract corporate demand from the banking and IT sectors.
IHG chief operations officer Middle East and Africa John Bamsey said the property was one of "a number of promising projects" the company was working on with the Al Yaquob Group.
"IHG is committed to the expansion of the Holiday Inn brand across the Middle East and Africa, with 23 hotels planned for the region by the end of 2010," he said.
"With Dubai expecting 40 million visitors by 2015, the hospitality industry must cater for a diversifying mix of travelers, and therefore the need for an internationally renowned brand offering modern facilities and unfailing dependability, service and value, is vital."
