With new ISO 8573-1 CLASS 0 certificates for oil-free air compressors, Atlas Copco, based in Manama Bahrain, has introduced the first compressors to be TÜV certified.
"The compressor itself is an existing technology, but we have raised the classification and certification of it to a higher level," said Conrad Latham, business line manager of Atlas Copco.
"In the oil and gas industry almost all companies will use oil free air. Companies such as Saudi Aramco, will generally insist that their instruments are oil free. So by having this class 0 certification, we have been able to prove internationally that our machines are 100% oil free, under all conditions."
The compressors were also tested by Technische Überwachungs-Verein (Technical Monitoring Association, or ‘TÜV').
"The message that we're trying to get across now that if you have facilities that could be potentially at risk - taking a risk on compressed air quality can be potentially catastrophic," said Latham.
