Mobile satellite communications company Inmarsat is supporting the UAE Desert Challenge rally, by providing connectivity for race officials and press throughout the event.

The company is supplying its IsatPhone dual mode satellite and GSM phones for race officials, along with its R-BGAN and BGAN satellite terminals, to help with management and logistics for the race and to help keep track of race competitors.

Inmarsat's satellite terminals will also be used to connect the press centre, to allow media covering the race to file stories and images around the clock. The year's event will be the sixth that Inmarsat has been involved in.

The UAE Desert Challenge, which is held in November, takes in some of the most remote desert regions of the Emirates, so satellite communications provide a vital connection for media and organizers alike.

Samer Halawi, vice president, Inmarsat Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific commented: "We are delighted to be supporting the UAE Desert Challenge for the 6th year in a row with our leading-edge technology. Our participation reaffirms our commitment to this important region and the value that Inmarsat's mobile satellite communications services bring to areas where terrestrial communications do not exist."
