Saudi ups consumer protection efforts

Saudi Arabia is consolidating national efforts to monitor consumer prices with the creation of a department for consumer protection.

The Council of Ministers approved the move by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to create the new division at the deputy minister’s level, according to Saudi daily Arab News.

Osama Al-Kurdi, member of the board of trustees of the Riyadh Economic Forum and member of the Shura Council, told Arab News: “An agreement has already been reached and the Ministry of Finance will provide the necessary financing to make it operational.”

The new department will monitor consumer prices on a continuous basis, and will be open to consumer feedback, Arab News said.
