BBC News selects Gigasat system for Baghdad bureau

BBC News has contracted GigaSat to manufacture, integrate and supply a fully redundant Ku-band fixed satellite earth stations with full RC&M capability for its Baghdad bureau.

"We are very pleased to be selected by the prestigious BBC News for this important service," commented Gary Moore, sales director of Gigasat. "We have worked with several clients in the Middle East over the last many year so the BBC benefits from our experience in this region. I am confident the system will remain robust and successful in its operation."

The system is being designed specifically to withstand the harsh climatic conditions of the Middle East and will be operated from Baghdad, Iraq. Full functionality of all equipment will be controlled via software at Television Centre London. The system will be used for daily/hourly contribution feeds.
