Shanghai water project completed

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Sunday, 21 October 2007

Around 2.6km of the water supply network in Shanghai has been replaced in a project aiming to eradicate leaks and water wastage.

As maintaining the high water flow was a priority, Contractor Shanghai Pudong Water Supply & Drainage Construction Engineering used Swagelining trenchless installation to carry out the project. The technique involves digging small pits through which pipes are inserted into the network. This ensured minimal disturbance in the city while maintaining high pressure water distribution.

Borouge BorSafe HE3490-LS plastics water pipes were used to replace the previous iron pipes in the network. The pipes are manufactured from high impact resistant material that can withstand temperature extremes, high water pressures and stress cracking.

Pipe converter Shanghai Chinaust Plastics recommended the use of the BorSafe products. Sales manager Hou Shubin explained: "BorSafe HE3490-LS provided important materials savings while optimising the thickness that could be used. As a low sag material it allows larger pipes with a constant thickness to be extruded."
