United targets Far East and South America

US carrier United Airlines on Sunday launched services from Los Angeles to Hong Kong and from Washington Dulles to Rio de Janeiro.
"Further expanding our route network gives our customers what they have asked for - more ways to visit popular international destinations for both work and pleasure," said United senior vice president of planning Kevin Knight.
"With nonstop service, these two cities are now much easier for our customers to visit."
United Flight 867 departs Los Angeles International Airport at 12:10pm and lands at Hong Kong International Airport the following day at 6:40pm local time. United Flight 856 departs Hong Kong at 12:20pm and arrives in Los Angeles at 9:35am the same day.
United is operating the combined passenger and cargo Los Angeles service using a B747 aircraft configured with 14 seats in first class, 73 in business and 260 in economy including 88 economy plus seats that offer up to five more inches of legroom.
With the B747 aircraft, United has the capability to carry about 12 tons of cargo per flight between the United States and Hong Kong.
The seasonal direct service from Washington, D.C., to Rio de Janeiro will use a B767 aircraft configured to 10 first class seats, 32 business class seats and 151 economy class seats, including 71 in economy plus. This aircraft can carry about 12 tons of cargo per flight between Washington, D.C., and Rio de Janeiro.
United Airlines has operated a non-stop Kuwait Washington Dulles service since October 30, 2006.
