Hitachi Data Systems is hitting the road this month as part of a Middle East tour to ensure all its customers in the region are well versed in its new line of storage systems. Hitachi and local partner STME are conducting the tour - focusing on storage virtualisation - of seven major cities in the Middle East, starting with Riyadh at the beginning of November and finishing off in Kuwait on November 15th. In between the pair will be making stops in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Egypt to meet customers.

The Middle East roadshow follows the September launch of Hitachi's Universal Storage Platform VM, which aims to allow companies to be able to control various storage aspects without the problems associated with virtualisation appliances such as reliability and scalability issues.

Tony Ward, general manager and sales director at Hitachi Data Systems Middle East, said: "Hitachi Storage Virtualisation capabilities enable businesses to achieve 85% or greater utilisation of their existing storage assets. This is not known to most IT managers in the region, and even where it is known, rarely do users really know how to achieve the best results from their storage systems."

According to Ward, most companies utilise only 35% to 40% of their storage. "So with STME, we made the decision to invest in taking our knowledge and capabilities ‘on the road', to show organisations in the region how storage virtualisation can dramatically change their business and enable them to achieve vastly improved storage utilisation rates," he explained.

Jocelyn Al Adwani, deputy CEO and CTO at STME, hopes the tour will "demonstrate the benefits that virtualisation and tiered storage can bring to companies". She said: "Storage virtualisation is a rapidly emerging solution to help customers simplify data and storage management, control administration costs, reduce hardware and software spending and better utilise their storage assets."
