Budding filmmakers given chance at fame

MBC is giving select students in UAE schools and universities the opportunity to submit a two-minute movie that they will have to shoot on the Nokia N95 mobile phone.

The mbc2 Movies in Motion competition runs from October 28 to the end of November. The winning entry will be shown at the Dubai International Film Festival and on mbc2.

The mbc2 Movies in Motion competition is being launched with a road show that will take a team of industry experts to approximately 20 UAE schools and universities where they will offer participating students a condensed course in the art of movie production, from storyboard creation to the final edit.

The competition will only be open to the students chosen by the team.

Speaking about the competition at a press conference, Andrew Maskall, senior channel marketing manager for MBC said: "We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and positive reception that the mbc2 Movies in Motion initiative has received from the educational institutions that have been approached, and we can't wait to see the finished products.

"This is just the first phase in our long term commitment to mobile movie making and we will have some very exciting announcements to make at this year's Dubai International Film Festival"

For this project, Nokia will provide its N95 8GB handset to the chosen students. The Nokia N95 8GB, allows users to jump into action, with video capture of up to 30 frames per second, a five megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, video centre, internet and built in GPS; with a total of 8GB storage space on the device.

Entries in the mbc2 Movies in Motion competition will receive a two-minute movie award at this year's Dubai International Film Festival, which runs from December 16-19, and will be viewed by an international panel of judges who will nominate the winning entry.
