The UAE's first official facilities management organisation could launch by the end of the year.
Known as the FMBG (Facilities Management Business Group), the non-profit group will act as a governing body for the FM sector in the country.
"It will benefit the industry in terms of knowledge sharing, networking and benchmarking studies. This is the focus of any industry organisation," said Dilip Khatwani, chief executive of Reliance FM.
Approved and recognised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), the stand-alone group aims to serve the FM sector, similar to the BIFM (British Institute of Facilities Management) in the UK. It will also have ties with Global FM.
The FMBG will initially be focused on the UAE FM sector, with ambitions to eventually serve the wide Middle Eastern FM community.
"At the moment we are actually jointly working on a business plan for the year, which will encompass what we charge for membership. This includes corporations and individual membership," said Sinead Bridgett, sponsorship director, Office Expo.
"When we spoke to a member of the DCCI, he was excited about the benchmarking projects and the whole idea of the business plans," added Khatwani.
Before its official launch, the group would like to welcome industry professionals to attend a meeting at the DCCI to elect the FMBG's founding committee. Date to be announced.
