Riyadh Eid celebration utilises HD technology

The Eid Festival celebration in Riyadh utilised a raft of high definition projection equipment.

Saudi Arabian events production firm Technology Instruments Company (TIC) celebrated its tenth year supplying AV equipment to Riyadh's Eid Festival celebrations with the installation of high definition (HD) presentation technology based largely on Christie HD projectors.

Commissioned by the Riyadh Development Authority, TIC developed the infrastructure and provided technical support to the event, which included daily cultural performances to 5000 spectators in a temporary venue located in the Saudi capital.

The live performance was augmented by a backdrop that utilised a raft of Christie HD equipment, including one Roadie 25K and two HD12K projectors, each of which were suspended from a Thomas Megatruss system. While the Roadie 25K projector displayed live feeds from some 18 cameras, providing splits to local TV trucks as well as projecting pre-recorded standard definition video sequences, the HD12Ks were used to project video data, including content shot in high definition, on to the large-scale backdrops.

TIC also leveraged an extensive lighting inventory including two DL2 digital light fixtures with Christie LX55s to project purpose-designed graphic effects on to two 5m x 4m screens.

These projectors were fed content from two Axon rackmount media servers (which shared the same graphics engine as the DL2), while additional content was projected on to two seprate 6m x 4m screens.

TIC project manager Sultan Al-Hamoudi said the festival represented one of the most complex events the company had ever been involved in.

"This is one of the biggest events we have done, and the client was delighted with the quality of the content," he said.

In terms of staging equipment, the company supplied an array of audio and lighting gear including a Midas XL mixing console supplying a Martin Audio PA system, High End Systems (HES) moving heads including 18 Studio Command 1200s, 12 X-Spots, 20 Studio Colour 575s and 20 Studio Colour 575s, as well as Thomas Par 64 and Strand Fresnel generics - all of which ran off Wholehog III and RoadHog desks.
