Hub chief mysteriously quits DAE Airports

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Sunday, 04 November 2007

DAE Airports' CEO Kjeld Binger has quit the company four weeks after its bid for Auckland International Airport was rejected.

The aviation stalwart resigned to pursue other endeavours, according to DAE spokeswoman Zarmineh Rab. She added that Binger leaves on amicable terms with his former colleagues wishing him well. When speaking to reporters, Rab declined to comment on Binger's reasons for quitting the airport investment company.

Earlier this year, DAE offered US$2.08 billion for a majority stake in Auckland International Airport.

The deal was aborted following opposition from the hub's shareholders and backers, which include Manukau City Council and Auckland City Council. In a joint statement, DAE and hub owner Auckland International Airport Ltd said: "In light of recent developments, DAE regrets that, notwithstanding the best efforts of the board of AIAL, the transaction could not proceed in the form proposed." Despite opposition, AIAL was thought to be interested in selling.
