Abu Dhabi's Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) has signed a framework agreement for the planned Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

His Excellency Shikh Sutan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan signed the agreement on behalf of TDIC, the development arm of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, in New York along with William Mack, chairman of the Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation.

"Becoming a world-class cultural centre fits precisely into our governments overall vision 2030 strategy - but it has to be a centre that will be highly regarded and well respected on a global scale. We want to be inclusive in appeal, rather than exclusive," Sheikh Sultan told a group of politicians from New York and Abu Dhabi attending the celebration event, which followed the signing.

The 450, 000ft² Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will have a strong educational element, driven by a 250-300 member Museum Operating Body made up partly of UAE nationals. The body will also run an educational programme for UAE schools and universities.

"This inclusive approach is important to us because our aim is not only to provide a world-class cultural asset for the emirate, but also to foster a culture of arts appreciation and create new career prospects for our nationals," said Sheikh Sultan.

"To achieve this, we have to embark on a continuous educational programme and we are doing this with the Foundation's support."
