Kempinski Hotel, Ajman, United Arab Emirates

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Sunday, 18 November 2007

For those who expect their seaside resorts to be tranquil and offbeat but also want to be within reasonable driving distance from a bustling metropolitan centre, Kempinski Ajman fits the bill. Built in the mid-90s, the luxury hotel manager's first foray into the United Arab Emirates has maintained its position as the undisputed leader in Ajman, and continuously attracts tourists from near and far.

Ajman is the smallest of the seven emirates that comprise the UAE, and is located about 25km north of Dubai. Life in Ajman used to run at a much slower pace than Dubai but as the economy has expanded over the past decade, the tiny emirate is no longer dormant. Real estate developments have popped up all along the main roadways, new neighbourhoods are under development, and the once barren coastline is now bustling with activity. Nevertheless, the Kempinski is still very much a resort location.

The main attraction is its 500 metre private beach, one of the longest in the region. Pure white sand and crystal blue water provide the basic requirements for a fun and relaxing time at the beach, but of course this is a five star hotel with five star amenities. The Kempinski Ajman boasts its own dive school - a five star PADI Golden Palm Resort - where guests can take a wide range of courses from beginner to advanced, and even sample some specialty dives such as wreck diving, night diving, and dive safaris. For those who are looking for sports above the water, instructors are available to give tips on jet skiing, windsurfing, and waterskiing.

Travelers can also take advantage of the 28 ft sports fishing vessel and partake in some game or bottom fishing. The clear blue waters off Ajman's coast offer excellent fishing with sailfish, barracuda, tuna, and mackerel. Finally, for those who wish to enjoy a cool sea breeze without worrying about the details, the hotel has a 40 ft luxury motor yacht where guests can cruise, host private yacht parties, or travel to secluded white sand beaches.

After a day out on the beach (or underwater), most will need some time to relax, and this is where the Kempinski legendary service truly shines. As with all the hotels in the luxury operator's portfolio, the rooms and service leave nothing to chance. All the rooms and suites have private balconies with sea views, and the subtle Arabic tones give guests a genuine feel for the local décor.
