A new concept in hotel rooms has emerged in the form of the Travelpod. Those who do not like the idea of camping in a dirty field can now relax in what British hotelier Travelodge claims to be the world's first mobile hotel room.
The 6 x 2.4 metre room is a clear poly-carbonated glass box with interiors that replicate those of a conventional Travelodge hotel room. Designer Shakila Ahmed collaborated with Anthem Promotions to create the pod, which can be positioned anywhere you would put a tent. The pod can also be easily transported in the same way as a caravan - towed behind a vehicle.
The interiors of the palatial pod are complete with all the accessories you would expect from a three-star hotel room, including a double bed, bedside lights, duvet, pillows, fully carpeted floor, window blinds and dressing table with a mirror. Additional features, such as air conditioning and heating, flat screen TV, DVD player, tea and coffee making facilities and a washroom with a bio-degradable toilet and washbasin also come as standard fixtures.
"At the moment we are looking to run customer trials so that we can decide on the long-term strategy of the pod. The plan is to have it at outdoor events such as music festivals and sporting events," explained Ahmed. The Travelpod will be tested over the next couple of months.
