The World Travel and Trade Council (WTTC) has announced that Dubai is to host the 2008 Global Travel and Tourism Summit.
At the official launch, president of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation and chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and chairman of WTTC and chairman and chief executive officer of Abercrombie & Kent, Geoffrey Kent, signed an accord formalising the private-public partnership.
This partnership, which comprises the Government of Dubai, Emirates, Jumeirah, Nakheel and the WTTC, will guide the forum's development.
Running from April 20 to 22 next year, the Summit will bring industry and government leaders together to discuss the priorities for the travel and tourism industry, which is the world's largest generator of jobs and revenue.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum welcomed the WTTC to Dubai and expressed his belief that the Summit would shape the structure of the global industry.
WTTC's Geoffrey Kent cited Dubai as the world's leading example of a state that had successfully embraced travel and tourism as a catalyst for economic growth and prosperity. He also applauded the government of Dubai for its long-term vision and commitment.
WTTC president Jean-Claude Baumgarten added: "The active participation of all delegates and the frank exchange of ideas from all countries of the world will influence decisions taken by industry leaders, assuring a long-term and responsible view of travel and tourism.
"The summit in Dubai will provide the ideal platform to broadcast the unity of our leaders in ensuring a sustainable future," he concluded.
