For Kuwait-based Tamdeen Real Estate Company, information technology can literally help to boost profits. That's because with several properties that bring in multiple tenants in the form of shopkeepers, apartment owners and hotel guests, IT helps Tamdeen provide unique services to these clients, differentiate itself from the rest of the market and earn additional revenue.

"Every IT project has to be addressed with the idea that it can become a potential source of profits for the organisation. Consequently, the senior management of the company is very closely involved in each of these decisions and is fully aware of the relevant services and connected profitability that will result with each technology implementation," says Ahmed Al Sarawi, MD of Tamdeen.

Tamdeen is a leading real estate company in Kuwait with extensive experience in investment, finance and development of commercial real estate projects.

Some of Tamdeen's major projects include Madinat Al Fahaheel residential city, Al Manasher Rotana Hotel, as well as landmark shopping centres Al-Fanar, 360 Kuwait, and the Mall of Kuwait.

In order to offer additional services to clients, Tamdeen has to ensure that its network operates at optimal efficiency with a high level of stability and, therefore, invests a lot of energy in ensuring effective product selection and deployment. With so much at stake, it was only natural that the company paid a whole lot of attention to choosing and deploying a reliable solution during the recent implementation of cables at some of the firm's sites.

Going to great lengths

Tamdeen began to look for a new structured cabling solution for the company's corporate office, the office of the firm's shopping centres, the Al Manshar Rotana hotel and the Al Manshar Residential Towers.

"We wanted a complete structured cabling infrastructure from a single, reliable and high quality vendor to provide our partners and properties with a state of the art, sophisticated and intelligent communications service. In addition, we needed a vendor that would be able to provide services and maintenance support relating to telecommunication facilities for our entire real estate portfolio," says Al Sarawi.

According to him, Tamdeen acts as a mini ‘ministry of communication' for its tenants. It helps the various shop owners, apartment residents and other tenants to obtain, implement and retain telephone lines without having to approach any other organisation in the country, wait in line or go through any of the associated hassles. Al Sarawi promises that at Tamdeen clients at the various projects can get connected within ten minutes.

"We looked at several well-established companies and finally decided on R&M. They had the relevant support that we felt was critical to the firm and they had a well-established, international reputation to back them up," says Al Sarawi.

Tamdeen selected the Swiss vendor R&M's Category 6 Enterprise solution along with R&M's ‘Freenet' fibre optic connection for the backbone, utilising colour coding for the highest cabling connectivity and data security.

"The implementation started about two years ago and it has been a smooth process. There has been no major glitches and everything was done in time. From the start, the support and help from the vendor was absolutely brilliant," enthuses Tamdeen's Al Sarawi.
