Relative stereotyping is alive and well. Here's our selection...

Jeweltech

The result of Philips' get-together with Swarovski crystal, there is now a whole line of glamorous USB trickery to choose from. From ‘icon' headphones to USB memory key pendants and dazzling flash drives, this little lot should really wow her (providing she's up on memory matters that is), ensuring your dinners are tasty for months to come.

Bling piece

Okay, so this super high-end handset might cost more than you make in months, but should you hit it big between now and December, then this is definitely one prime gift on which to blow your newly-acquired wad. Vertu's Ascent Ti line of phones has been designed to emulate what the firm refers to as ‘the clean, sculpted curves of a powerful car', while the devices' on-screen chronograph and offset-illuminated keypads echo ‘precision dashboard instruments'.

As for the price of these titanium-cased beauties... well, if you have to ask then you can't afford them. (We'll tell you anyway though, below...)

Put a stop to it

Whilst it's understandable when parents give in and buy their whining offspring a console, you can then also understand their frustration when they can never drag their little ones away from the TV afterwards. So help out either your own struggling mum, or a friend who's a mum, by getting her the Game Guardian. Sold in the UAE at Geekay Games, this gives parents control of PS2 gaming (the PS3 includes built-in parental controls already), by using a programmable timer to allow and disallow access to the console. It's a bit of a medieval approach, it's true, but they have to learn how to talk to other human beings sometime.

In the frame

Local device vendor i-mate has just the thing for brightening up a living room (and sucking up all the attention at a dinner party), in the form of its media-savvy Momento 100 digital picture frame. Packed to the brim with features, this not only displays photos, but can also play MP3 and WMA format songs thanks to its built-in speaker. Should your mum have bigger, better speakers she'd prefer to hook up however, she can even connect these as there's an audio-out port included too. A quality buy.

$326, www.i-mate.com
