A record number of premieres will be screened at this year's Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) organisers have announced.

A total of sixteen world premieres including documentaries, shorts and full length features from all over the world will appear at this month's festival.

"Making a film can take years, and filmmakers choose very carefully where to premiere their work," said DIFF chairman, Abdulhamid Juma. "We take the high number of filmmakers who have entrusted us with their premieres to be an indication that our international reputation, as a reputable springboard for the international festival circuit, is strong."

The Arab film showcase programme, Arabian Nights, will open with a first screening of Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch's, Whatever Lola Wants. Emirati short film Tenbak, directed by Abdullah Hassan, will also make its debut in the Muhr Awards documentary category.

"For audiences, a world premiere is an exciting chance to see something brand new, usually accompanied by the director and the stars seeing their work with an audience for the first time."

A number of other local co-productions from Syria (Six Ordinary Stories, directed by Meyar Al Roumi), Jordan (Recycle, directed by Mahmoud al Massad) and Lebanon (Falling from Earth, directed by Chadi Zeneddine), will also make their debuts.
