The Bush administration announced plans yesterday to sell advanced anti-missile systems to the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait with a combined potential value of nearly $10.4 billion.
The Pentagon told Congress the United Arab Emirates had asked about buying 288 Patriot Advanced Capability PAC-3 missiles and related gear worth up to $9 billion.
The prime contractors for the proposed sale would be Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a notice to lawmakers dated Tuesday.
Kuwait said in October it planned to buy anti-missile Patriot systems from the US as part of a military aid package announced in July.
Washington said it would help Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states upgrade their missile defences and air forces and increase naval capabilities in a package that could reach $20 billion over ten years.
