US plans $10.4bn Gulf missile sales

by Lynne Roberts and Reuters on Thursday, 06 December 2007

The Bush administration announced plans yesterday to sell advanced anti-missile systems to the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait with a combined potential value of nearly $10.4 billion.
The Pentagon told Congress the United Arab Emirates had asked about buying 288 Patriot Advanced Capability PAC-3 missiles and related gear worth up to $9 billion.

The prime contractors for the proposed sale would be Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a notice to lawmakers dated Tuesday.

Kuwait said in October it planned to buy anti-missile Patriot systems from the US as part of a military aid package announced in July.

Washington said it would help Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states upgrade their missile defences and air forces and increase naval capabilities in a package that could reach $20 billion over ten years.

Buy your umbrellas while you still can
Posted by langyaw, Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 6 December 2007 at 10:07 UAE time

The Bush administration is itching to attack Iran. And to avoid or minimise collateral damage, it is now asking neighboring countries to 'buy your umbrellas now', while the storm clouds are still gathering.
In my opinion, Iran, with or without nuclear weapons, is still thought of by the Bush administration as a threat, and no one knows how to convince them otherwise.
Should Bush decide to drop bombs on Iran he should carefully consider Putin's recent election victory in Russia's recent elections as well as the Russian leader's outspoken support for Iran.
