"Keep things in perspective, even when things are going badly."
Who was your first, or most influential, CEO or mentor?
A gentleman called Steve Parker. He was the Marketing Manager of Ford of Europe during most of my time working there in the mid ‘80s.
What set them apart?
His sense of humour and coaching skills.
How did they mould your work philosophy?
He taught me the paramount importance of excellent communication skills and how to keep things in perspective when things are not going well.
What key values permeate your business?
Tell people things positively and clearly; make sure they understand where they stand and what it is you need them to do.
What qualities do you look for in your team?
Openness, willingness to change, loyalty and wanting to do the best for themselves as well as the company.
What three qualities should every CEO have?
• Good communication skills
• Decisiveness
• Integrity
In a few words, what advice would you have for an aspiring CEO?
Be prepared to take risks and take decisions quickly (and never forget that your family comes first!).
